Faces of Semios is our series putting the spotlight on the incredible people behind Semios — the folks out in the field every day, building relationships and helping growers thrive. We sit down with a Semios team member to learn a little more about what drives them, both professionally and personally.
Meet Sydnee Whitehead

If you’re a grower or PCA in Kings or Tulare County, there’s a good chance you’ve crossed paths with Sydnee Whitehead. Since 2020, Sydnee, our Territory Manager for Kings & Tulare Counties, has been helping growers navigate everything from irrigation to pest management. But before agtech, there was basketball. 🙂
Playing college basketball was one of the most formative chapters of Sydnee’s life. Sydnee was lighting up basketball courts across college arenas and then across the globe, playing professionally in Portugal, Germany, England, and Australia. The discipline, resilience, and team-first mindset she built on the court now show up in the field. You can feel it in every conversation she has with growers. We sat down with Sydnee to talk basketball and why agriculture is the industry she's proud to call home. Let's get into it!
You were a college basketball player. What was that like?
Playing college basketball was one of the most formative experiences of my life. It taught me discipline, resilience, and how to perform under pressure. It also showed me the value of being part of something bigger than yourself. It was an amazing experience and shaped who I am today.
Do you still play?
No, I'm too old. 😂
Tell us a bit about your background. What was your journey to working in agtech?
I earned my Ag Business degree from UC Davis, then had the opportunity to play basketball overseas. When I returned, I pursued a master's in Sports Management and spent a few years working in college athletics — but eventually, I felt the pull back to agriculture. It turned out to be exactly where I was meant to be.
What's the biggest "assist" you've given a grower this season?
Helping a grower use data to make confident, timely decisions, whether it’s about pest pressure or irrigation timing. When we can turn data into action that protects yield and saves money, that feels like a great assist.
What's one lesson from the court that you bring to the field every day?
Teamwork. Success doesn’t happen alone—on the court or in the field. Communication, trust, and supporting each other make all the difference
What drew you to working in agriculture and agtech?
I was drawn to agriculture because it’s an industry that truly matters. It feeds people and sustains communities. Agtech, especially at Semios, brings innovation to an industry that’s ready for smarter, more sustainable solutions. We’re helping growers use real-time data to reduce risk, improve efficiency, and farm more sustainably.
What’s a common challenge you help growers solve?
Managing uncertainty. Whether it’s weather, pests, or resource use, we help provide clearer insights so they can make proactive decisions instead of reactive ones.
If you could give one piece of advice about ag technology, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to start small. The right technology should support your expertise, not replace it. When used well, it becomes a powerful tool in your toolbox.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Spending time with my two boys and husband. We stay active, and I still love anything sports-related. Being a mom is my favorite role.
What do you love most about working at Semios?
The people and the purpose. I’ve been here for over five years, and I love being part of a team that genuinely cares about growers and is committed to making a difference in agriculture.
What’s one thing you wish more growers knew about Semios?
That we’re true partners. We’re not just providing technology. We’re working alongside growers to help them succeed season after season.
